My Florida Series
View
this Collection
This is a series I recently began that depicts the scenes of Southwest Florida that are rapidly becoming inaccessible, or disappearing altogether. It is my intent to record my impressions of the land and sea that I grew up with, so that others might enjoy the Florida that soon will exist only in the minds and hearts of people who have been here long enough to remember Florida as it once was.
Most don't realize that when the "wild west" was finally tamed, South Florida was still a vast frontier, full of Seminoles, outlaws, and escaped slaves. While I am not quite that old, I am a student of history, and some of the history of Florida does make its way into my work. I hope you enjoy the series as I develop it.

Portraiture
View
this Collection
This collection contains portraits of people and animals. It has been a while since I have concentrated on portraits, but I used to do portraiture almost exclusively. Check back to see new works; I will post them as they are completed.

Landscapes
View
this Collection
This collection of landscapes is of places I have been that inspired me. I get something new from every place I visit, and I try to capture the essence of what inspires me to paint without necessarily copying what I see. I believe that at one time in history, copying a scene exactly served a valuable historic purpose. However this practice is no longer necessary because a photograph now serves the same purpose. This frees the artist up to rearrange and create landscapes and seascapes from their mind, heart, and experiences. These are not facsimiles, but are the spirit and essence of a place as distilled through the artist's personal belief system. I hope you enjoy returning as I continue to post new work to this area.

Miscellaneous/Experimental
View
this Collection
These works encompass a variety of subjects that interested me enough to paint them, but they have not evolved into a series or collection. I also have included experimental techniques or ideas in this area, because I am constantly trying to find new techniques or ways of working. I believe this constant striving after a new approach keeps me from falling into a creative rut.
